Hi, thank you for these in-depth posts! If I DO want to ultimately do research on human diseases, are there similar NIH fellowships for funding PhD students? I know there’s an NIH F31, but that seems to be for already-enrolled PhD students (which I’m not). Trying to yoink funds from other scientists seems a bit disingenuous if I’m going the medicine route.
NIH only has F31. Most PhD students in biomedical research are funded by grants to their advisors. There are also MD-PhD programs that are fully funded, but those are extremely competitive to get into.
